Getting the Ball Rolling
I am getting closer to starting up my classroom blog. I decided a while ago that I wanted to use it for math, but with everything that we have going on in school, it has been difficult to find the time to get started. The thing is, I know this blog will be a great learning experience for all of the students, so I really need to get it going. I created an account with Kidblog the other day. This seems to be the most secure sight to use. I like that I will be able to approve the students' posts before they get published. Right now I am in the process of making a permission slip to sent out to parents. I think I am going to use the backwards approach and ask the parents to contact me if they do not agree with blogging, instead of having them let me know if it is okay for their child to blog. Once I have my permission slip approved by my administrator, I will send it out and then get the blog started. I am predicting that it may take a while for the students to get use to the format of the blog. I am sure I will have to review it a couple of times, however, they are like sponges so they might be able to understand it faster than I could! Wish us luck!

I'm at the same point trying to get my students up and running on our blog. Right now I'm in the process of working with our tech teacher to make sure everything on our end is ready to go for the students. How are you planning on using it for math?
ReplyDeleteI am planning on posting a weekly word problem, and then I want my students to answer it during math stations. I want them to be able to explain how they got the answer and why the answer makes sense.
DeleteI just begin to use Kidsblog this year. When you are ready, I'd like to share with you.
ReplyDeleteThat would be great! Maybe you could teach me a few things!
DeleteThis is awesome, good for you! It's intimidating to start - so I think having an idea of how and when you want to use it makes it easier for kids to latch on. And you're right, they will probably figure things out faster than we do, I find that happens all the time! I think you're right to go that way with permission slips - are your administrators on board?
ReplyDeleteMy administrator is on board! She actually gave me the idea of doing the backwards permission slip. I sent it out on Friday!
ReplyDeleteHow nice the your administrator is giving you ideas. I'm very interested to hear how the students are responding. I too agree they will probably figure it out. I find students are usually 3 steps ahead of me when it comes to technology.
